Healing Ceilings – Amy Jo Edwards  Healing Ceilings is an art-as-medicine mission to create an atmosphere in cancer treatment centers that will give comfort, distraction, and hope, and more to patients. Amy was inspired to start Healing Ceilings after sitting with her husband through his grueling treatments for cancer.  The atmosphere in most of the chemo suites is very cold, sterile, and patients have no view of windows.  Hospital art is not a new concept, however Amy has infused the science based knowledge of art on physiological healing.

Donating artists paint on ceiling tiles that are strategically and thoughtfully placed in treatment centers.

Not all art is soothing or appropriate for this mission.  Whimsical and non object based abstracts do not connect with patients.  Images that enable the patient to enter a peaceful state and to escape the immediate harsh realities are best.  Colors based in nature with soothing images work best. Non- directional images are easier to place.  Patients surrounded by such imagery are found to heal faster and decrease hospital stays.

Healing Ceilings is just operated by Amy and her husband.  They have installed in over 22 locations with over 500 tiles.  Guidelines for art can be found on their website.  They will provide a prepped tile to the artist, at no cost to the hospital.  Acrylic paint only. No mixed media.  It is ok for groups to work together to create one continuous image.  Some individual artists have done several tiles.  HC will pick up the tiles for you when you are complete.

Artist Linda Burrell has generously offered Sunflower Studio as a place to paint if the WFGA artist would like to schedule on or more sessions to get to gether and work on this project.  Look for an announcement for after the Holidays.
